Club aims—what we offer |
|
|
|
The aim of the Club is to give every child, no matter what their age or physical ability, the chance to enjoy the sport of swimming. Members may join the club as complete beginners (there is sometimes a waiting list) or at a later stage of development, and ages range from 5 to 70 years. Some Master swimmers (18 years and over) train with the main competitive squad but there is a separate club catering for the old swimmers (DTs).
Swimmers progress through the four widths groups, achieving awards through the various water skills and distance awards in accordance with the ASA National Teaching Plan.
They then continue through the squads (Imps, Juniors, Seniors and County) where either speed or stamina will be improved upon or further skills and water safety will be taught. At each stage awards in various water skills and distances can be achieved, and also competitive speed awards.
Several galas are held each year from friendly ‘B’ team galas, mini-league galas through to the Southern Junior League and National Speedo League, giving a chance of selection to all squad swimmers.
The club championships take place each November and there are events for every age group, from ‘Tadpoles’ (width swimmers) – ages 5, 6, and 7 years, to Open age groups. In addition time trials are held at regular intervals including a half-mile event twice a year.
Swimmers are encouraged to take part in local Open Meets (at Torquay and Exeter) and Devon Development Galas, and Age Groups if they can achieve the qualifying entry times.
They are also encouraged to compete in Open Water events and Dawlish hold their own Open Water championships.
Keen swimmers are encouraged to attend additional early morning training.
All of this in a friendly Club atmosphere with people of all ages.
At each stage swimmers are taught by fully qualified staff in a safe environment. Parental help is always welcomed on or off poolside - no experience is necessary. The club is always keen to help anyone who wishes to gain any of the ASA qualifications.
Dawlish Swimming Club is for anyone who wishes to learn to swim or has had lessons but now wishes to extend their potential on a regular and competitive basis.
